I've received many technical answers from forums or lists of which I am not apart of using Google similarly to how you found your own post. The password solution personally would not inhibit me at all, as I am on the list, but I'd hate to deprive some other anonymous soul from stumbling on some desired tidbit of knowledge. Of course, as list moderator it's Jeff's call, but I feel the truly most effective solution that makes the list the most useful to the greatest number of people is to simply be conscious that this is not anything but a public forum and that your posts may not always be viewed by the people they were originally directed at. Think of it like forum access is at most places online. Guests can read, registered users can read and write.

Couldn't we lock out the world from this list and access archives with a password? It would be the best of both worlds.

I disagree. I think the archiving of this list is a very useful feature. In the past I've dug up some old nugget of information or other this way and would strongly oppose this changing. This is a public list; do not post anything you would be uncomfortable with being in the public eye.

Hi all,

Quick question I'm hoping someone on this list might be able to answer. I used Google to search for an FTP server, and I came across some information regarding flash FTP, and since I already use this app, I clicked on the following link just out of curiosity: //www.freelists.org/archives/programmingblind/10-2007/msg00993.html I was freaked out when I discovered that the message Google found was a message I posted on this list last October. I'm wondering if I can do anything on my end to prevent my replies from being found when someone conducts a Google search. Since I found my own post from some 9 months ago, I think its pretty safe to assume all of our posts are 100% public, correct? Can we change this setting for this list?--if the bulk of us are interested of course.

Thanks,

The very internet naked Matthew
