Hi,
I was mislead by what I read. You do have to install stuff, but the site uses
several different version control tools. So I guess the selling point is that
you can have more than one kind of repository on that site.

Hi Jim.

It works OK as long as you stick to a couple of rules.
If you've got multiple people accessing source code files at the same time
tools like SVN can automatically merge changes in to files or give you assisted
ways to do this. When your dealing with non text files like word documents then
you have to try to avoid having 2 people edit the same file at the same time.
Most configuration management tools give you the ability to lock a file for
editing meaning that until you check it in or unlock it no one else can check
it in, this sort of function is useful when working with non source files in
config management.
I've not used the tool you've sent the link for but I'd be surprised if it
doesn't have a locking type of concept.

HTH.
Nick.

Hi,

In case this is useful to someone, I found this because I was trying to find a
way to centralize the storage and retrieval for some files for myself.
http://beanstalkapp.com/features/version_control.

I have a question. Would version control work for files other than source code?
For example, if I wanted to store a couple of Word docs and retrieve them from
more than one computer, would this kind of thing work for that?

Thanks.

Jim
