speaking of sql server 2005.... any one try a beta copy or express version
to test accessibility?
Justin
Hi George,
Well, I must say I've never tried reordering SQL Server table columns using
Access. I know you can do it using Access for Jet databases, i.e. mdb
files. Might be worth giving it a try, if the questioner actually happens
to have a copy of Access that is.
The problem is that as far as I can see, Enterprise Manager hasn't been
updated for quite a few years. It hasn't changed since SQL Server 7, and
appears not to have had new UI features added, even for the latest versions
of SQL Server 2000. But, as was mentioned, it may be that SQL Server 2005
will include a completely re-written set of client tools. The MMC snap-in
ones for earlier versions are somewhat antique now.
All the best,
David

Hi David,
I'm very likely batting from the wrong wicket here, but you can certainly move table columns in Access.
However, I can see no keystroke method. What I do it to click on the column Header to highlight the column, then holding the left mouse button down, drag the column to wherever I want it to appear.
George.

Hi,
To the best of my knowledge, there is no feature tofieldfields in an SQL Server table. I've had to do this many times myself, and have always ended up creating a newin the location I want, copying the data from the old tothenew, and then deleting the old. Finally, renaming the new
usingfield finishes the job.
I'm not even sure if there is a way to reorder fieldsEnterprise manager. I asked my sighted colleague a fewdaysago, and she said there didn't seem to be an obvious waytoitsdo it there either.
Off the top of my head, I'm not even sure how you would script adding a new field, in such a way that you specifyEnterpriseposition among existing fields. Logically there must be a way, otherwise how wouldManager allow you to insert a new column at a specific location? But there you go. It may just be well hidden.
All the best,
David

Hi list,
I wonder if anybody can help me with this seemingly simple
issue. I want to reorder fields in a SQL Server 2000table. Iknow you can use Enterprise Manager to do this, but I find
the visual tools hard to use and prefer to script all my database changes. Is it possible to reorder fields using a
script or stored procedure?
Thanks and regards. Charles Steyn
