Hi Andy. A waste of time? Some people think it is a waste of time? Well if FS is sluggish and you need those packages accessible then well done for starting something! Well done! But it is a disgrace that the very expensive AT software can't provide all of that out of the box.

I find that it is like a second job, this getting the latest software development technology accessible and a work environment properly setup! We can't settle for this. Programming is hard enough without all of these stumbling blocks. If so and so AT company is not willing to / able to support the latest MS development technologies then so be it, but at least one of them should step up to the plate and say that they do support those technologies and then do so properly in partnership with MS.

If you like I can setup a GoogleCode project for you similar to http://phonim.googlecode.com where you can host and describe your add in and scripts for VS 2012. In that way you can provide documentation and source in one place and start a platform from which you can encourage participation by the community at large and FS themselves even (they don't have to ask you for code or explanations - make it as easy for them as possible). Let me know, I'll help in any way I can afford to.

Writing docs can take quite a bit of time but I do believe it is essential if you want anyone out there to understand what you are doing and where you want to go with it.

I'm right now going to email suggestions@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
and "suggest" that VS 2012 and SSMS (sql server management studio) should be given top priority for support with JAWS. I encourage every one of you on this list, even if you don't use JFW currently to do the same.

As I've said, it's fine if FS chooses not to support those development technologies, but then they must say so up front, and then someone, GW Micro for example, must see the gap and do a proper job so blind folks can program and contribute and use their abilities.

I mean, we are not talking about some fringe application here, we are talking about the very core of MS, the tools they themselves use to develop everything they sell!

I encourage you to make some noise. I'm not expecting FS to start performing miracles - about making intrinsically inaccessible parts now suddenly accessible - I'm talking about basic stuff that are essential for modern software development - even just back end development - no GUI involved.

In closing I want to say that I'll happily contribute some funds towards hiring someone to properly make the core MS dev tech accessible, i.e. paying for the time of a talented JFW script writer if FS can also come to the table and contribute a significant portion of this dev cost.

I want to do real work! I don't want to have to waste my employers time with having to make things accessible that should be fine already.

Come on FS! I know you can do it for all blind and partially sighted programmers working on the MS platform! Come on! I know you can!

Hi.

As far as the VS2012 addon/jaws scripts go, I have to set aside the time to actually create one because none exists at the time. Many people think doing that is a waste of time because it should technically be the AT providers such as FS or GW's problem, and it should be left up to them to deal with it. In general, this is fine, but we are often times left in the dust because MS is coming out with a new version, and accessibility is just getting started on a version that you can't even buy on the market anymore,. For management studio, I don't know of anything that exists eiher. Let me know if you want me to set aside some time to look into the problem and see what I can come up with.

Hi Andy. Do you perhaps have more information on where this add in for VS 2012 and the latest scripts can be obtained from?

While on the topic, is there something similar for SQL Server 2012 Management Studio?

VS 2012 is ok with JAWS 13 and 14, but JAWS will need a vs addin to relay as much information about the environment as possible. Then, some JAWS scripts will be needed to grab the information Visual Studio is pushing to it. This way, maximum use of VS2012 and JAWS 13 and later can be gotten from the combo. Personally, I hate line numbers in source code, and turn it off every chance I can get. The errors list can jump you straight to an error regardless of the file it is in. This works only in a global window such as solution explorer, and works for the immediate file that is open, and has focus, if there is an open file.

Hi All. I just bought myself Jaws 13 and vs2010 to upgrade my programming environment. I now need some advise. I have for example, configured line numbers to be shown on the text editor. But jaws doesnât seem to be able to read the line numbers. This is just one of the problems I am encountering. My question is, Do i need to go into the settings center in jaws to set anything up to make jaws and vs2010 work propperly together? I also got myself vs2012, but I am hesitating to install it for the moment because Iâm not sure if Jaws can propperly be used with it. Has anyone tried the combination? and if so, how good or effective is jaws with 2012? Thanks for answers or advice and cheers!
