Jim,

Whose choice is it to pick either SWT or SWING?
I mean for a new development can we choose SWT while other employees using
SWING?
When you're talking about adding accessability fitures manually, do you mean
JAWS scripting?

Thanks,
Anna

Anna:

SWT as well as SWING / AWT are technologies for creating rich client
interfaces.... much like Windows. In fact, SWT relies upon the native widget
tool kit that is integral to most operating systems. SWT / IBM's approach
was or is to use what already exists and wrap these controls for their own
particular use.

A command button whether rendered in Visual C++, VB or with SWT should
appear similar and behave in the same manner. On the other hand SWING and or
AWT re-event the wheel so to speak and created their own versions of
controls which don't behave in the manner as with the former, therefore as a
programmer we must add accessible features manually to these controls, rely
upon the Access Bridge and the adaptive technology companies to keep pace in
order for the blind community to have reasonable access.

An Integrated Development Environment, does as it suggests. It allows many
features such as real time debugging, creation of packages, refactoring and
much much more. They bring together many features into one neat package.

Hi Jim!

What is SWT application?

Also what are the functions of IDE beside compiling and running Java
programs?

Thanks,
Anna

Creating a SWT application isn't solely dependent upon Eclipse or any other
IDE.... If one has the corresponding librarys, I'm quite confident that one
could build a SWT app with Notepad.

Ok, thank you. This is not very good unfortunately, because the SWING
applications are not so accessible as the SWT ones.

JDeveloper is good for swing applications. It also allows for html/jsf/jsp
development as well.

What kind of interfaces is it the best for? SWT? SWING?
Does it have a designer like DotNet has?

To be quite honest, I am very new to eclipse (this week), so I am not sure.
It has some features that may not be appreciated by a java or web developer
like database administration capabilities, but other than that, I am not
sure of the differences.

JDeveloper is a programming Integrated development environment like eclipse.
It can be used to create java applications as well as web-based
applications.

In terms of accessibility, it is mostly accessible.

Please note that any comments about JDeveloper's accessibility are from my
own observations and not an official Oracle statement.

How accessible is JDeveloper? Is it a development environment like Eclipse?
Is it used manly for creating SWT apps like Eclipse, or SWING apps?

Thanks.

JDeveloper 11G download ...

To begin with, unlike Jim, I am not a teacher, so my presentation may not be
as concise as his.

However, in order to use JDeveloper 11G, you first need to get it from
Oracle Technology Network:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jdev/index.html

Pick the Oracle JDeveloper 11G download.
Check the Accept license agreement on the next page, and then the download
JDeveloper studio for windows link.
You will then be prompted for your oracle.com login credentials I believe it
is pretty simple to get a login.

Once you login, the download will start. It is almost a 700mb download.

You will be downloading jdevstudio11110install.exe. Put it somewhere simple
to remember and stay tuned for installation instructions.
