Yes this is the smarter "auto-complete" location bar feature which as you've found automatically grabs recent page visits, bookmarks and tagged pages too. You can disable this feature by open the about:config page and set the value of browser.urlbar.maxRichResults to –1. Restart Firefox and the address bar will behave like it did in Firefox 2.
