ahh! - she is using the touch pad - BUT - you can just be
sitting there not touching anything and these things open.
That would be the leprechaun! Some things happened when she
was using the touch pad, but I was just sitting there when
one of them opened. (sry, I don't recall what it was) I
told her the first time I was there to get a mouse for it.
It wouldn't even have to be wireless, would it? And - I
wouldn't be surprised if you are right about things not
being updated.
Thanks! I'll mention these things to them and see if it
helps.

I had a microsoft blue wireless mouse that ate batteries
like crazy. I know have a logitech that sits in a cradle to
charge and I love it! Optical's are the way to go, for sure.

Hi Chris

First you didn't say if she was using a mouse or the touch
pad to maneuver
around.

If she was using the touch pad to maneuver around, the touch
pad can be very
sensitive and without realizing it, you can be pressing down
on it thereby
activating what ever the arrow is over or comes across. I
know I had this
problem on my Sony Vaio laptop (first one) and took me a
while to figure it
out. I got a USB wireless wheel mouse and it stopped. I
suggest you consider
advising her to get a wireless mouse. Love mine EXCEPT that
I have an
optical one and it could go through batteries pretty
quickly. Mine uses two
AA, there are wireless mouse's that use AAA, but don't do
all that mine
does. I use OLD (15 years old) rechargeables (can't get
these kind any more,
they are NOT the NiCad type) and they have saved me a bundle
in battery
costs. I like the wireless one cause I don't want more wires
all over the
work area. Another thought here, I have three USB ports on
my laptop, so you
want to take into account how many USB ports her dell has, a
lot of laptops
come with only two USB ports. Remember, one will always be
in use for the
mouse. Then again, she could get a multiple USB port add on
device that
plugs into the other USB port and that will give her plenty
of extra USB
ports. Depends on how many she will need now or in the
future.

If hubby does not work with a laptop, I suggest you have him
piddle with it
and sooner or later he will press to hard on the touch pad
and something
will pop up on him, providing that is what is happening.
Personally, I think
it is the resident leprechaun in the laptop that is causing
the problem. :-)

As far as popups that say to update is concerned, new puters
(laptops too)
come with bundle programs that may be a tad bit old and they
may be set up
to prompt to be updated when the equipment is first used.

Those are my guesses, hope it helps some.

Life is what happens in between plans.
