Shutdown.exe isn't, strictly-speaking, a DOS command; it's a 32-bit program, only available in XP/2000. But it does run in the Command Prompt, and can be used in batch files and the like. Anyway, the useful switches for shutdown.exe are: "-i" Display the graphical interface for shutdown.exe "-s" Shutdown the computer "-r" Restart the computer "-l" Log off the current user "-t xx" Specify a timeout of xx seconds before the shutdown/restart/logoff initiates "-a" Abort a shutdown operation which has started ( -- useful for neutering virus activity and unwanted remote shutdowns) There are a few more. Type "shutdown /?" at the Command Prompt for a full list.
