As far as the organizing, I have already organized my pics by
folder name and was just trying to understand the real benefit
of a program like this.

I have hundreds if not thousands of pictures but half the time I
can't remember where I put a particular one and I don't want to
spend hours looking for it.
Picassa indexes all the jpgs, gifs, png, tiffs on my computer
and puts them in albums by years. I can easily find the one I
want and if you play around with the program, it will do a lot
of effects.
It's good for people who don't want to learn photo editing
software.
