Toni, PCTechTalk is just as much a teaching/learning portal as it is a place to get help for specific PC problems. As a result, I try to be as detailed as possible so that both you and other members who are following along can fully understand what's going on, even if they have little to no experience with a given situation. So, even if you already know the details of whatever I suggest, please don't ever feel like I'm 'talking down' to you. The nitty-gritty details are included for anyone who might need them. Ok, here we go. The standard rules for dealing with Registry tasks is that you NEVER change anything unless you absolutely know what you're doing or completely trust the source of the advice you're following. Changes made to the registry are not reversible since there is no 'Undo' feature built into the editor. I'm not asking you to change anything here and you will only be using a couple of non-editing keys to make your way around. However, if you should accidentally cause an unexpected window to appear, calmly click on the Cancel button and no harm will be done. On the other hand, if changes need to be made to the registry, you will want to create a backup of the registry before beginning, just in case something should not go as planned. On XP and Vista systems, one relatively painless way to back up the registry is to create a Restore Point. :O) Open up the Registry Editor (Start > Run, type in REGEDIT & press Enter). Once it opens, press F3 to bring up the 'Find' window. Type in "BVRP Software" without the quotes and click the Find Next button to start your search. It will stop searching and present you with its first 'hit', which could be in either the left or right pane. Specifically, you're looking for anything that shows the full path to the "document" folder at the end of the Path statement that you recently sent into the group and this will only be found in the right pane which shows the actual settings assigned to the different keys (those folder-looking things) on the left side. It may or may not be exactly the same as the one below (the last installation of the program may have detected the already existing 'document' folder and named the new one something like "document2"), so we're just checking to make sure before proceeding. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BVRP Software\Classic PhoneTools\document If the first hit doesn't show the full path, you can use your arrow keys to move around any related keys in the left pane of the regedit window. However, you'll have to make sure Windows' focus is on the left pane before it will allow you to do this. Of course, you also have the option to click them directly with your mouse. Just like Windows Explorer in XP and earlier, there are + signs next to various keys to show that there are subkeys nestled within that one. However, keys will only show up in the left pane. Clicking directly on one of them reveals their contents (minus any subkeys within them) in the right pane. If looking through all related keys and subkeys doesn't reveal the full path you seek, press F3 again to resume the search. When it finds another instance of your search term, it will stop again so you can again see if the full path is shown there. If not, Press F3 again, etc.. When the Find window has reached the end of the registry, it will present you with a simple message box to that effect. If you get this far, click OK and close the registry editor. Obviously, I am hoping that this problem can be easily fixed with the info this search produces. If not, this may not be the last time I send you into the depths of the registry. :O) Peace, Gman "The only dumb questions are the ones we fail to ask" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Toni Hawkins" <tonirh@xxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, July 12, 2008 7:51 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: PCTechTalk=- Re: BVRP Classic Phone Tools Fax Log Not There >I am not scared.
