You may totally remove anything related to Office. Go to Add/Remove
software and remove it. Then go to Windows Explorer and delete all the
folders left behind. Note: if you never actually installed the Office
trial, you will "remove only". If you did the trial install you will
"uninstall".

If you still get the update notices run a registry cleaner or manually edit
out references to office. If you still get the notices, hide the updates.
If you complain to Microsoft tech support they will reply with procedures
that would give their lead programmer a headache.

Note: Some system recovery processes (either CD/DVD based or HD partition
based) may allow you to do a recovery and elect to NOT copy things such as
Norton and Office trials onto the hard drive. My free Vista Express upgrade
allowed that also. I left off everything from A to Z. Norton -A-nti Virus
to HP game -Z-one.

Note: If you installed the Office trial and only want to get rid of Excel,
just uninstall Excel. That will not impact anything else in Office that you
leave installed. However, with Open Office installed why have MS Office at
all?

Outlook Express 7 is really Windows Mail and is in Vista only. It is not
(as far as I know) available for the XP or earlier platforms. I have not
checked it out yet, but http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com should support both
OE and Windows Mail.
