-=PCTechTalk=- Microsoft Word-Excel-etc. - to delete or not to delete - patch or not to patch

My computer came with a 60 day trial of the basic Microsoft programs and I
installed Open Office instead. Every time I do a windows update they tell
me I need to download all the patches for these programs and when I did a
scan with Trend Micro it also told me I needed to get these patches.

Windows keeps telling me I need to update Outlook Junk e-mail filter, Excel
viewer, and 3 for office 2003 - now I probably need to do the 3 for Office
correct? But I don't have Outlook on here so not sure why it's telling me I
have to patch that one also.

Can I safely delete the Excel program without it having an effect on any
other programs?

Last - what is the current take on Outlook Express 7 and if I download it
will it delete all the mail in my folders currently and the folders
themselves plus addresses, etc - in other words do I need to back all that
stuff up or at least make a list of the name of the folders I have been
using.

Okay that's it for the questions tonight. I probably won't be seeing any
answers tonight as heading to bed shortly but will check in the a.m.
 Thanks - Dolores
