Roger,
    I have absolutely no experience with Thunderbird, nor have I ever taken 
a peek into its Settings/Preferences area.  However, I will install it in 
one of my sandboxes so that perhaps I can get to the root of this issue. 
Most likely, I will create a new email address to use for experiments such 
as this and will ask you to join in on the fun by sending some things to 
that new address.  Stay tuned.
