I have Office 2007, this is what you need to do: 1. Open word. 2. Under page layout, click the right bottom corner. 3. A box will open up that says at the top "Page Layout". 4. On the MARGINS tab it shows portrait or landscape. 5. Choose Portrait Orientation. 6. At the bottom left it has a button that says DEFAULT. 7. Click on that. A popup box will ask you "Do you want to change the default settings for page set up?" 8. Click on yes and that should take care of your problem.
