I know here in California the doctors who take Medicare and Medicaid are
generally the doctors who work at county hospitals. I’ve been very lucky with
Highland as everyone there has treated me very professionally even if they
haven’t worked with a blind person before. Don’t stop trying to get that
looked at. You might have to go in to the hospital urgent care early and wait,
but you’ll certainly be seen and taken care of, and as I say, usually, the
county hospitals take both Medicare and Medicaid.

Well it kind of hurt this morning when I was crossing streets to. Because some
of the curbs were kind of high. And I'm still having shoulder pain from when I
got hit by that car years ago. That if she was starting up to. So who knows.
It's probably arthritis but I'll find out. What are my friends recommended
somebody but he only takes Medicare not Medicaid. So he didn't want me because
he doesn't take both. Oh well I'll have to keep trying.

No, you shouldn’t have to take Vikodon to mask the pain. A job of a doctor is
to find out why you’re having the pain in the first place, as my regular doctor
is doing by referring me to radiology to get X-rays to find out why the muscles
in my arms are so inflamed.

Hopefully you have a friend who can recommend a doctor who agreeswith your
point of view about not wanting to take Vikodon unless you have to. Since you
only hurt on stairs, hopefully you can take elevators and pain medication like
Aleeve. My arms are a whole lot worse than that. It doesn’t take much for my
muscles to become inflamed. All the computer work I’m doing may inflame them,
or at least on the right arm.

Yes we have choices. But the choice is also determined inns terms of whether
they take Medicare and Medicaid. That's the other thing too. Yeah I'm going to
look around. And maybe have somebody help me. But no I do not like this guy.
And he's very brusque and everything so that's the way that goes. But his for
current prescribing Vicodin and OxyContin all the time that's something I
cannot agree with.

Oh, Kathleen, that’s not exactly helpful when a doctor doesn’t tell a blind
person he’s leaving the room for whatever reason. If you don’t like him, fire
him and hire someone else who can do a better job. Certainly, in New York,
you’ve got plenty of choices I would think.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do find another doctor. I do not like this
guy but that's not for the only reason. He doesn't even tell you when he's
leaving the room after he's done examining you. And you're lucky to get five
minutes with him. I think you probably only get three. But that's just the way
that goes. But I'm going to call this other place and see if I can go there.
It's his place with a spring you for these injections for your knees. I hope
the people are nice but I'll just find out what the deal is.

Hi, Kathleen,

I know what you mean about taking pain meds like Vicodin. I’m glad my
orthopedic specialist doesn’t prescribe that stuff. I don’t blame you for being
annoyed with the doctor. I’d be more than annoyed. I’d probably want to find
another doctor.

Linda I'm glad you didn't have to take Vicodin. That's what me and my
orthopedist got into this huge argument about. He wanted me to take either
Vicodin or OxyContin and I said no. The reason I said no is because I travel on
the subway and I didn't want to be under the influence of either one of those
drugs if I was traveling. He got mad and said will you just don't want to try
it. So I will and I just walked out of the office. They left the prescriptions
on the counter for me to get them and I will have to. I just left them there. I
was kind of annoyed I don't know why these doctors don't understand some of
these drugs can affect us differently and the blind people traveling we just
don't stay home all the time. That's just really totally nuts. Well I got the
Aleve. And I got it in a bottle I can open. I got the Aleve caplets. Thank you
goodness no child safety bottle just a regular screwtop that you take off. And
I'm glad I got it that way. The gentleman in the drugstore was nice. So he help
me get what I wanted and then I left and came back home.

Hi Hi Rosie,

I guess with the inflammation, my body needs a good bit of sleep, and I’ve got
plans for both tomorrow and Monday. I’ll be up early enjoying the Raiders game
and pre-game shows, well, let’s hope I’ll enjoy the Raiders game. I’ll enjoy
it if they win more than I will if they lose. Monday Gina and I are going out
to breakfast, and then at noon I have a phone appointment. Sure can’t wait
till Thursday. Will have to get on the phone with Maxi-Aids and have them send
me yet another label so I can return the nonworking braille watch. I want a
refund this time. At least I didn’t have to take Vikodon this morning.

Hi, Linda,

I’m so sorry you’re hurting. I’m also sorry about your braille watch not
working right. I found out from a friend that Orange County Braille Institute
took out their store so I’m not too happy about that. That’s where I bought my
braille watch. I’ve stayed in bed towhen I had a lot of pain.

I hope you feel better soon.

Rosie, glad you sent it. I’m so behind on e-mail right now as I overdid it
Wednesday with laundry and garbage and yesterday with trying to find something,
one of those suction cup phone attachments. I had to change an appointment and
found out the hard way my braille watch, newly purchased, doesn’t keep time
worth a bag of beans!! It’s going back to Maxi-Aids, and this time I am asking
for a refund of my money as this is the second braille watch they’ve sent me.
The first one couldn’t even be set properly. Anyway, I hurt so much in my arms
and even my knees last night that I had to stay in bed much of today and rest.

Hi, Linda,

I also have Incense and Peppermints by Strawberry Alarm Clock and will be glad
to send it to Devon if you don’t have it.

Hmm, I thought it was drug related but I, too, could be totally off-base. I
didn’t like a lot of the music back then if I thought it had anything to do
with drugs. For instance, when The Doors did “Light My Fire,” I figured it was
most certainly about drugs, but when I heard Jose Feliciano’s version about a
year later, now that sounded like a couple having a mellow time to me. I
didn’t become too involved with this one, Devon, because my perspectives about
a lot of music coming out at that time is pretty messed up. If you don’t
already have “Insense Peppermints” by Strawberry Alarm Clock, which was a song
throwing a bunch of nonsensical lines together and not about drugs, let me
know, and I’ll gladly send it.

Hi, Devon,

I think Mellow Yellow was supposed to be a silly song if I remember correctly.
If I’m wrong, somebody please jump in and correct me.

Hi, everyone. I thought I might finish this week’s show with a song or two
about Autumn, time permitting. If I were to choose something by either the
Cascades or the Danderleers, would those songs most likely come from the
sixties? I have a folder of Autumn songs, thanks in large part to Nance, but
not many of the songs include years. The other question has to do with next
week’s special on songs having to do with drugs. I have a couple of songs that
weren’t connected in any way with drugs but people thought they were. Any
other suggestions along those lines? I think I should do whatever I can to
debunk rumours like that. And were any songs by either Bob Dylan or Donovan
connected with taking drugs? One Donovan song that particularly comes to mind
is Mellow Yellow. Thanks a bunch for any info you might be able to pass along.
Devon.
