RE: Standy database on standard edition

I do not want to use Data Guard.   I will be able to create the standby -- 
(just give the standby its own db_unique_name, or both primary and standby  ie  
db dbprd, db dbsty).

No I am just asking opinions on licensing issues -- assume both boxes are 
licensed for oracle std edition.

In my opinion, if you are running Standard Edition you cannot use Data Guard.  
Or am I missing something in your question?  As the doc states, there are ways 
"around it" with Standard Edition...notably you need to copy and apply the 
archive logs manually.  I have done that and it works fine.  But it's not Data 
Guard.

As far as naming, Data Guard makes use of the db_unique_name parameter.  It is 
normal for the primary and standby databases to have the same db_name.

In your opinions, would my interpretation that the data guard licensing could 
not possibly be violated whether the standby database stays in recovery 
disconnect from session, or whether it is recovered once/day and opened read 
only?

I opened an SR, but it is a sev 4...

Also, if both databases on the separate servers happen to have the same exact 
name, is that a show stopper or an issue?  The standby will point its logsource 
for recovery to the primary archive log destination on a backup device.
