If you're making online backups, you'll need all the archived logs since the most recent backup *started* in order to recover. That's why you should backup those logs at the end of the backup routine. Without the logs since the backup started, you cannot recover at all. If you at least have the logs since backup start, you can recover up until the PIT of the archived log backup.
