I agree, and with snapshot capabilities inside of the VM, it makes testing oh-so-easy. Plus, now that you can get a reasonably sized laptop with 4GB of RAM or a bulky one with 8, it's feasible to run a couple of VMs simultaneously. I have run two windows and one Linux VM at one time on my 4GB Mac laptop, and while I wouldn't recommend doing any heavy gaming, I was still able to surf the web, ssh places, etc. Matt ________________________________ From: oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dan Norris Sent: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 11:59 AM To: oracledbaquestions@xxxxxxxxx Cc: robertgfreeman@xxxxxxxxx; oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: 11gR1 on MacOSX Personally, I have never installed databases on my laptop (back in my Windows days or today on my Mac). I always install inside a VM (usually a Linux guest). I have used the instant client on MacOS with success. I have a mac laptop. Apple does not document how to code on its OS so it goes out of its way to make it hard for developers to make applications. There is a good google video about the vmware team and how hard it was to make vmware on the macintosh. Apple is a proprietary software and hardware company. They see mac developers as competitors so they want to produce most of the software for the mac. I think there was a dispute between Oracle and Apple about something or other and oracle either discontinued developing on the mac or there is some kind of delay. mac is not as big of a deal as the mac whackos make it out to be.
