Living in such a dusty area like Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, we
have a daily problem with dust particles sticking to the objective lens. I use
a heavy duty air blower like Giottos-Rocket-Air-Blower
to blow the dust away, never to clean or wipe the lens while some dust still
on, as that will scratch the lens. A small paint brush might help also to reach
the periphery or stubborn particles.

We have installed filters to the Air conditioning vents, and
I make sure that the lens cap is placed on after each patient; also we cover
the whole camera body with a plastic cover at the end of the day.

For smudges or prints on the objective lens I use a mix of
Ether-Alcohol (20-80 mix), and of course a lint free Kodak lens paper.

I believe the hot breaths would condensate some
water vapor on the lens and that would make it hard to clean or to be clean!

Hello OPTIMAL,

I am wondering if anyone has a set protocol for cleaning fundus cameras.
Specifically, how often do you clean the front objective lens, and what methods
do you use? We recently discovered that one of our camera lenses was badly
scratched from someone cleaning with something abrasive (seriously looks like
it was done with sandpaper..thankfully it does not affect the image at all in
most cases)

Any other tips on camera cleaning and maintenance would be welcome!

Thanks very much!
