Tom,

You actually mad me LOL. It does seem like the patients with the biggest
greasiest noses seem to aim for the lens of the imaging equipment that I am
using at the time.

Thanks,

I would say clean only as needed. Use a big blower bulb like the Giottos
(looks like a 1940s A-bomb, stands up by itself and does not roll off the
table) to blow the occasion dust off, though.

It is best to try to minimize getting nose prints on the lens. I always
pull back the retinal camera joystick, and then move the table up (our
Reliance chair does not move) and have the patient put his chin in. On the
Cirrus, I can't do this. I tell the patient to carefully put his chin on
the left side of the chin rest. This is a difficult concept for some, and
they seem to aim the nose for the lens before I can stop them.

I found ether to be expensive and volatile, the majority of it evaporated
instead of being used. Cotton ball (not Q-tips) and alcohol work for me.
