The consumers (not you, of course) are the ones the ones who have changed the

Consumers - including myself - have embraced the now-available options that did
not exist before consumers embraced MVPD services to gain access to more
content, just as they embraced packaged media delivered on videotape and DVDs
before that.
Most people have no problem paying for TV entertainment Bert, including
multiple services. It is FACT that more than half of the homes in the U.S.
Subscribe to both a MVPD service and a premium TV bundle like Netflix. It is
fact that people now download movies and other TV content instead of buying it
at Target or renting it at RedBox.
ANd YES, I believe that the MVPDs have gone past a magic barrier of price. This
was intentional to acclimate the consumer to paying more for TV entertainment;
as these new lower cost options increase, consumers will continue to pay
hundreds of billions each year for TV entertainment.
And yes, many will tell the cable company where to stick it, as they switch to
the new Hulu live/VOD TV bundle and others like it. And these homes will still
pay about $100/mo for their TV fix - the content owners will get about half,
and the cable guys will still get paid for their pipes...
For some reason, Craig feels compelled to insist on "bundles," even when the
term means nothing of any significance anymore. Flexibility in how the
content is packaged makes ALL the difference. One way or another, content for
sale has to be organized. Pay per view will never succeed as the main method.
Bundles are VERY significant still Bert.
Netflix is a bundle. CBS All Access is a bundle. The current Hulu services are
bundles. Sling is a bundle, Sony PSTV is a bundle.
And yes we are seeing new options and a bit more flexibility. That is to be
expected when consumers start bailing out on overpriced options.
If you think nothing has changed, it's only because you haven't made any
changes.
Many things have changed Bert. We now have near real time access to all of the
music, and most of the TV programming ever created.
I just changed my service from Cox - there are no viable alternatives at this
time for the content I am willing to pay for. Cox offered a viable bundle of
services that cost less than what I was paying, and threw in two premium
networks that normally cost about $30/mo. And there is no contract with an
automatic price increase in the future.
That too is change.

Craig
