I'm not sure what you're missing here, or why. The fact that the legacy MVPDs
want to "incorporate" Netflix in their own bloated bundles, if anything, is
PRECISELY why they would want to block Netflix from their mandated-neutral
Internet tier, when our FCC Chairman gives them the option to do so. Your
logic is backwards, Craig, as so often happens.
Bert. Wake up.
HBO, Showtime and Starz have NEVER been part of their inflated bundles. They
are ADD ON tiers - they may be used to help sell the extended basic bundle. For
example, I have had access to HBO since I renegotiated my Cox service early
this year; I've never used it, as I did not want or need it.
Such is the reality of the way content is sold today.
WHy in the world would a MVPD go top the trouble of enabling their STBs to
access Netflix, if they believe they are going to block it? That makes NO sense.
The cabled MVPD/ISPs want to sell you everything in their store. TV bundles,
VOIP phone service, broadband, home security and control. It would be suicidal
to block something their subscribers want; ESPECIALLY if they can cut a dal
with Netflix to sell their service.
Besides, if everything moves to Internet, they will still make a good living
with the ISP monopoly...
Here, let me make it plain for you. The legacy MVPD tells its customers, you
want that Netflix programming? No problem! The way to get it, the only way to
get it, is to subscribe to our expensive and bloated bundle, in which you
have the privilege of also receiving, say, the more expensive ESPN channels,
some niche channels that you don't want to receive, and any number of other
material that will increase our monthly profits.
You are wasting your time at Boeing. You should be working in the "Fake News
business." By now you should have a great retirement anyway.
You need to start doing lunch with the attorneys on K-Street. They need some
help now that the marketplace is finally starting to work in the communications
sector.
