The record is clear, and clearly Craig continues to misunderstand what's
going on. So show us Craig, and I mean with a direct quote, where I said that
the majority of network TV content is being viewed over the Internet. Do the

Don't change the subject. Last year you tried to tell us that the majority of
TV content was being streamed. Not "network content."
When all was said and done the numbers for last year were no higher than 23%
for all entertainment TV. Now it looks like the number is 28%.
Then let's see if Craig can comprehend this concept:
The majority of TV network content is not being consumed linear/live.
Correct. Last year we established that to be 47%.
According to a new study, 28% of all TV viewing is now done via
digital streaming.
So Craig, go back to the "record" and show yourself that I had already
estimated that for you, very closely, a year ago. And explained why, from the
stats we had. Do the legwork.
Not worth the effort. You claimed >50%. I proved it was not greater than 23%.
Then don't forget to notice how that thread began, last year, because you
were insisting that only a "tiny fraction" of TV was being viewed online.
Your claim was 4%. You need to quit arguing before digging yourself in so
deep.
That was several years ago.
Obviously the percentage has been growing for numerous reasons. Now the issue
is going to get even more cloudy, as almost all of the live linear networks are
offering TVE apps. I don't know where this will end, if ever, but I can make
some informed predictions:
1. The ability to access popular entertainment content on demand will reduce
the use of DVRs for time shifting, and allow more freedom to access library
content. This will cause a continuing increase in the percentage of TV content
viewed via the Internet.
2. Live linear TV will continue to attract a significant portion of the TV
audience at any given time of day. This will be driven primarily by sports,
news, and first run premieres of popular shows. This number is declining, but
is likely to remain above 33% of all TV viewing. It is important to note that a
portion of live linear viewing is shifting to Internet streaming on mobile
devices. There will be a spike this summer with the Olympics, as many people
like to watch specific events rather than the capsulized versions used for the
live linear network feeds.
3. There will be a shift to VMVPD services streamed over the Internet as the
content congloms grow more comfortable licensing programming for slimmed down
bundles.
4. A significant number of MVPD channels are going to disappear, as the need
for rerun channels evaporates in the face of VOD and SVOD access to library
content.

Craig
