This is most likely over-simplistic. With dialup, sure, Title II forced the
telcos to allow ISPs to operate on their lines. With DSL, the lines had to be
groomed, which was a rather labor-intensive effort, and the DSL ISPs would have
to intrude into the telco COs, to install the necessary DSLAMs and backhaul. So
the telcos simply did nothing. As long as the voice grade lines had not been
groomed, and the broadband equipment not installed, no outsiders could waltz in
and set up shop.
How far can a signal in the 10s of GHz travel Bert. At 5GHz we are
talking about 200 yards.
Show me the math, Craig. For backhaul, you can use high gain transmit and
receive antennas, optimally located. What applies to last mile connectivity for
5G to homes, or worse to mobile devices, should not be assumed to apply to
everything.
