Been there, done that.
No, you did not. But the more important point is that you've found a way to be
vague enough that you can argue out of both sides of your mouth.
So, on the one hand, you claimed that wireless broadband would unleash a huge
amount of competition, for broadband ISP service to homes. I said, not so fast,
and I gave you reasons why it just might not. Unless the telcos agree to let
third parties use at least some of their wireless infrastructure. And then I
explained that even using wireless backhaul is not a slam dunk.
Then you come back proclaiming that a wireless backhaul is out of the question,
but with your usual vagueness. And that fiber backhaul is the only way to go.
Guess what, Craig? You just invalidated your first claim, that wireless
broadband would bring such a huge amount of ISP competition!
Bottom line is, availability of low-ish cost Internet broadband service is
likely to remain in the hands of the few, not the many. The natural monopolies
that exist today might remain, even as they reduce their costs with 5G for the
last mile. Hence, net neutrality mandates remain essential.
