Who knows how long it will take before the pundits realise that hard-wiring only select web sites to these new Internet TVs will only be a recipe for instant obsolescence?

We can see what the real objective of this game is. Set up a restricted set of "anointed" web sites, then shut the wide open door to them.

I think you are bordering on conspiracy theory here Bert.

Clearly the media congloms are intent on building walls around their content. So be it.

But this is only likely to encourage content producers to seek other ways to distribute their content, including opening up their own sites.

You might consider another possible outcome.

App stores are becoming a viable new distribution outlet for smaller software developers. It helps to level the playing field against the big software foundries.

Don't be surprised if Apple and or Google provide independent producers with the ability to deliver their content to Google TV and Apple TV enabled living rooms. And don't be surprised if this content is offered FREE (with targeted ads) or paid, just as is happening now with apps.

Regards
Craig

P.S. It is highly likely that both Google TV and Apple TV will provide open access to the web as their software matures. As I mentioned recently, there are a number of issues that must be dealt with to make the web play well on the big screen in the family room.
