I think that historically this is unusual. Prior to last year I had never
heard of more than 2 Great Egrets being seen at the same time in the county.
In the 1990s I had to work hard to find one Great Egret per year in the county.
I think that Great Egrets have increased in numbers in the county in recent
years. On Jan. 29, 2015 Dan van den Broek and I found 12 Great Egrets in a
pasture along Sprague Rd. north of Molalla. A friend of mine has told me that
she sees Great Egrets in small numbers regularly in that area in the winter
months the past several years. I think that your sighting of 14 is the most
ever seen in the county at one time.
