Tim, as you know RS Hawk has become a regular fall bird at Malheur, with as
many as 3-4 birds present in the Harney Basin in some years, plus a few records
from the s part of the county. As far as I know a next has never been found in
Harney. I speculate that there are pairs in the Klamath Basin producing these
young wanderers, but that’s just wild imaginings. Perhaps Kevin Spencer of
Julie Van M could enlighten us about current status there.

Thanks everyone who has provided information. Sounds like breeding RS Hawks
continue to expand there range all the way into SW WA but WT Kites breeding
range has actually shrunk in the last decade. Interesting stuff.

Next question- does anyone know if Red-shouldereds are breeding anywhere in
E. Oregon, records have really increased in the last decade?

Merry Thanksgiving all!
