Ok...well like I said, since I'm on Windows XP now, this is so different and it's hard for me to remember But I know it was an issue I dealt with a few times when I worked help desk and I know it was fixed either in the registry or in File Types Try this.....go back to the registry and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8 This is the Excel.Sheet.8 that is waaaaaaaaaaaay down inside this key.....not the one that is inside the .xls folder.....if you scroll down past all the extensions, you will come to all the programs....just keep scrolling til you get to Excel.Sheet.8.....double click on that and compare whats in there with whats in the machines that work....also, inside this folder you will also see subfolders (click on the + sign beside Excel.Sheet.8).....double click on every one of these subfolders and compare their contents too with the other machines.....particularly the folder named "Shell" and all of its subfolders Make sure Excel is closed when you do all this. Or.....go to one of the machines that's working and click on their Excel.Sheet.8 folder once to select it, then go to the File menu inside the Registry Editor and choose to Export this key....put it on a floppy....then go to your machine, backup the registry, then highlight your Excel.Sheet.8 folder and delete it.....then copy the key from the floppy to your desktop...then double click it....this will import their key into your registry.....shut down the registry editor and try opening an Excel file again...since you backed up the registry, if this doesn't fix it, you can just load the old registry back in Just make sure you have the right Excel.Sheet.8 folder.....remember it is not the one that is a subfolder of the .xls folder....it's the one that's way further down in the list of programs If you don't know how to backup or restore your registry, you can read Vic's article on this here: http://www.personal-computer-tutor.com/vic5.htm If that doesn't do it, then I'm clueless.
