Because as technology improves, so does the way of doing things and "old
ideas and old technology" are let go for the better improvements. 97 wasn't
a very good version. Why limit 2000 users and force them to NOT improve what
they can do for the sake of those who are using older technology?

How many folks really card whether they can open a 2000 doc in 97? Not many.

Dian-

I +wholeheartedly+ agree that a document created (or last edited) in Word
2000 or higher should NOT be made to adhere to Word 97. I am with you 100
percent. I agree that a tiny few will want to open a Word 2000 document in
Word 97, a very tiny few. Of course, it is easy to save a document as plain
text, and open that in an earlier version, but that is not the point here.

What I do +not+ like is the fact our local Staples store has a sign beside
the Office 97 products is that the two are interchangeable, but you gain
"more functions" to use at your disposal in Office 2000. I think the manager
is mis-leading or he was mis-informed. I tried to explain it to him, and his
answer was: "Sir, just because you know the sign is inaccurate is no reason
for me to take it down. It helps me sell Office 97 to people who want just
parts of Office 2000. If the corporate office wants me to take it down, then
I will."

I wonder where he will be when the customers who buy Office 97 discover it
is not as rich in features as Office 2000? I still say that is misleading!

Robert
