Robert,

Sorry to hear of the turmoil. Hope everything and everyone turned out okay!

The only part of your post which confuses me is that it carries the 
implication that this is a new behavior when Access is updated from 
version to version. Admittedly, this is the first time I've seen the 
reference to OS changes being behind the problem. However, it's become 
sort of a tradition that opening an Access 97 DB in, say, Access 2000 
would irreversibly update the DB and sending it back to the original 
Access 97 machine would provide an unwelcome surprise. I'm not saying I 
like the fact that this happens with each new version of Access. I'm 
just not surprised by it. ;)
