Yeah. It seems the only version that didn't do this, Greg, is Access 2003.
Access 2003 databases CAN be opened in Access 2002 without any conversion,
so the databases can be used by both versions. So, if MS could do it for
that one, why the hell can't they continue this? Why is it possible to use
newer files made in all the other Office programs in the earlier versions,
but Access has to be different?

Robert,

Sorry to hear of the turmoil. Hope everything and everyone turned out okay!

The only part of your post which confuses me is that it carries the
implication that this is a new behavior when Access is updated from
version to version. Admittedly, this is the first time I've seen the
reference to OS changes being behind the problem. However, it's become
sort of a tradition that opening an Access 97 DB in, say, Access 2000
would irreversibly update the DB and sending it back to the original
Access 97 machine would provide an unwelcome surprise. I'm not saying I
like the fact that this happens with each new version of Access. I'm
just not surprised by it. ;)

Greg
