Katherine,
You should certainly get the o/s and hardware issues sorted before
commencing serious work on the machine.

Happy to work with you off list if you like.

What would be helpful would be any specific error messages or symptoms, as
well as the specs of the machine.

Regards

:Subject: [mso] The pc arrived--with corrupted software
     :
:I ordered a pc laptop weeks and weeks ago so I could be
     :cool like all of
:you. It FINALLY arrived, but with bad software (or something).
:Having not yet been able to get on the internet with it,
     :and having spent
:hours with my internet people and minutes with the
     :hardware providers (who
:quickly say it's an ISP issue) I have determined that the
     :software that came
:on the computer is bad. (The macs are online through the
     :router and modem,
     :for example)
     :
:I worry about a bad office XP home edition being a poor
     :platform to run
:Office XP (see, desperately trying to be close to on
:topic so I can ask my
:friends for advice), but I'm not sure what I can do. I'm
     :doing a software
:re-install now, but I feel up a creek without a reliable
     :operating system.
:(The ISP guy actually suggested that he gets OS problems
     :with windows that
:never show up on Apple and I just about died laughing).
     :
     :Any advice or reassurance?
     :
:And assuming I don't throw it out the window, do you know
     :how I can move
:palm desktop info and OE files from the apple into
     :Outlook on the pc (see!
     :again flirting with the topic!)
