Here in the states, the organizations which dictate policy for writing
college and post graduate research papers and theses, etc., (organizations
like APA and MLA, etc.) all require ONE space ... And when I wrote my book
for Wiley, they required one space too. Actually, writing the book is where
I FINALLY got used to one space. Up to that point, it was something I had
to keep reminding myself. Now it's just habit.

Age is definitely a factor here. Those of us who used to use typewriters
have had to learn this. The younger generation who have grown up with
computers NEVER used two spaces to begin with.

I've recently moved companies and discovered (by accident yesterday) that we
have an inhouse style guide which INSISTS on two spaces still. I guess
there is a divide between business correspondence and desktop based work
which will always exist, plus a certain amount of transatlantic variation!

<g> here also!
