The difference between a Line Break and an end-of-paragraph, is the difference between typewriting and typesetting. Most people use Word like a typewriter. That is they set the spacing after a paragraph to zero and insert a blank paragraph between other paragraphs. However, Word can be used like typesetting. In this case you do NOT insert a blank paragraph between other paragraphs. Instead, you go to your style settings and go to change the "normal" style and in that style change the space after paragraphs (e.g., to 6 pt or 9 pt or 12 pt). Causing paragraphs to space this way will increase the distance between paragraphs. But it will not affect the space between lines caused by Line Breaks. Note, that you can also change the space between LINES. AND, if you do all of this with STYLES, then you can change an entire document quickly. For a two page letter it won't matter much. But for a 250 page manual, styles are a lifesaver. James S.
