Jeff: I've never worked with footnotes before, and was puzzled as to HOW I could selct the separator and dink with it. Just in case anybody is missing this part, you switch to Normal view and then click View Footnotes. In the Footnotes pane, there's a list that lets you select, among other things, the Footnote Separator. With that selected, you can then access the paragraph containing the footnote separator and work with it like any other paragraph. I guess you could manually format the separator (set in Normal in my system) or create a custom Footnote Separator style.
