The easiest way to do this: If the records are orderd 1 through whatever, then you insert the row. You now have IDs ...8, 9, 10, 10, 11, 12...etc. right? So, all you need to do is to make sure the first ID (#1) is in the first cell and highlight all the IDs. Then hit Edit | Fill | Series. Make sure the box has series in column, that it is linear, and that the step value is 1. Hit "OK" and it will renumber all the cells accordingly, which means the series above will now be ...8,9,10,11,12,13... as expected. Hope this helps. /================================================\ | Michael Luevane | Systems Administrator | | mikel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx | Quantec, LLC | | 503-228-2992 | http://www.quantecllc.com | \================================================/ > -----Original Message----- > From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On > Behalf Of Paul Traynor > Sent: Monday, October 06, 2003 10:29 AM > To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [mso] Excel Help needed! > > > > > Hi, > > I've got a spread sheet with a number of columns, one of them being an > ID column. > > I have about one thousand rows in the spread sheet and the A column is > my ID.. so in cell A1, is the value 1, and in cell A2 is the > value 2, in > cell A100 is the value 100.. ya know? > > I've to insert a new row at A10, and so increment the whole ID column > after A10 by one.. so my new row's ID is 10, and the old ID 10 is > changed to 11. > > Anyone tell me how to do this?. > > Paul. > > > > --- > Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). > Version: 6.0.522 / Virus Database: 320 - Release Date: 29/09/2003 > > > ************************************************************* > You are receiving this mail because you subscribed to > mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or MicrosoftOffice@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > > To send mail to the group, simply address it to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > > To Unsubscribe from this group, send an email to > mso-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe" > (without the quotes) in the subject line. > > Or, visit the group's homepage and use the dropdown menu. > This will also allow you to change your email settings to > digest or vacation (no mail). > //www.freelists.org/webpage/mso > > To be able to use the files section for sharing files with > the group, send a request to mso-moderators@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and > you will be sent an invitation with instructions.
