Sad to hear of Randy Formenti's passing. I knew his mother well as she was a
teacher
in the Waverly School District. Waverly was one of the many school districts to
which
I provided teacher consultant support. One thing she did which was to teach the
abacus
to her students and I provided the APH abacuses (abaci to you latin lovers) were
easier to keep aligned in position. Did Randy stay on campus or was he bused to
MSB
everyday?

I went to the college prep program in Detroit in the summer of '69. A group of
us
went to Big Boys for dinner. I put what I thought was salt on Randy's French
fries.
A man was starring at me and said, "You just put sugar on that man's fries."
Randy
did not get at me. I graduated in the class of '69. Randy went to the program
early
as he graduated in '70.

I remember how Randy, Rob, and myself were always in competition to see who
would
get the answer to Mr. Neuman's sticklers.
Both Randy and Rob are gone now less than a year that they passed.
Hopefully we won't lose anymore fellow MSB alumni this year.

printing
house Not sure what she did there. As I remember, Randy was a day student.

Yes. She didn't do very well because if her brain damage from birth. I do have
4 grandchildren who are living with different families. Randy and I never had
any of our own, just cats.
How are your three doing? Oh goodness, I just did the math, and they're now the
age we all were when we met.
From everything I have heard, Stevie was a wonderful person. I have heard some
grumbling over his special treatment from time to time, so I wanted to cover my
butt. I know the museum was tickled beyond belief to get the yearbook and want
the other 2 or 3 Randy left. If anyone has any vintage items from the school
days the museum is a good home. I was thinking of Clayton's ballot box the
other day, and wondering what happened to it.
Do you know a group of Linux guys, including Kirk Reiser, who work on projects?
Randy used to instant message them frequently, and I have no idea how to
contact them. Not sure if any of them were from Michigan or not. They were also
connected with an electronic book listserv.
On a side note, technically Randy and I had our first contact at msu. He had
advertised for reader and I called. He was quite rude. That's how I'm sure it
was him <giggle> I always joked that one day we could both have regressive
hypnosis to see if the phone number I called was his.

You might be interested to know that Randy donated his MSB yearbook for the
year that Stevie Wonder and some of you graduated to the APH museum. It became
part of the display that included Stevie's old piano from school. And I realize
that including the rest of you and Stevie in the same sentence probably raised
blood pressure 20 points, but folks do love celebrities...

We had moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the end of May, 2014. He was
looking forward to spring here. It was a massive stroke, very sudden, and a
complete surprise, since he had checked out okay at the doctor in December... I
was planning on coming back to the area in the Fall for nostalgic reasons. Now
I hope to sprinkle some of his ashes on the old MSB campus, possibly in the
company of some of his friends, and then go out for a feed after, since it's
what Randy would suggest. I'll let you know closer to the time when.

Well, we lost another alumni.
Randy Formenti, class of 1970.
I got a call tonight from Inge, his ex-wife. He had a major stroke last night
and passed away.
She is going to join the list so hopefully people can share some memories.
No funeral arrangements. She is hoping to come up to Lansing in the Fall and
possibly get together with some of us for lunch and scatter some of his ashes
at MSB.
He is survived by his mother, Irene, his sister Jill both of Phoenix, his
brother Dave who I think is in California.
