Where I lived on Victor, I don't remember any bad storm that night, but it seems like that summer, we had a bad summer. It seems like when I heard thunder, it sounded like it was near the ground, which I tought sounded scary to me. In 1960, the graduation was on June 15. It seemed like it was kind of cool that day, and I do think we had a cool summer that year, at least for most of the time. I remember going to Connie's graduation on June 10. It was a warm night, and that one seemed nice too.

Hi Lucy,
Glad she hasn't gotten mad at you about that.
It was hard in the beginning though,  for me lol.

That's all right Steve. I still slip up every once in a while and call her
Mimi, she hasn't gotten mad at me yet, LOL!

Oops, I just sent her happy birthday wishes and put Mimi in the

That would be awesome, Steve.
She doesn't go by Mimi anymore, she answers to Merrilee only.

Rumor has it that Mimi may have a recording.  If she does, she said
she'd look for it and send it to me to hopefully digitize if the tape
is still good enough to play once or twice through.

Once I get it in digital form, I can try to clean it up a little with
an audio editing program; then I can share both versions with everybody.

I should know in a couple weeks if she could locate it.

I'm sure Chard probably recorded it too, but I don't know where those
tapes would have gone.  That would be a bit more of a challenge since
I'd have to hook up my reel-to-reel recorder.  I haven't used that in
probably twenty years, but I bought it new in the mid-80's because I
liked recording on reel to reel better than cassettes.  But,
cassettes are certainly more convenient.

Of course, there's nothing like doing it digitally today.

I should have noted in the previous message, this year on June 14th,
Duane and I closed on the house as the loan was  funded and we
received our deed.
So, what a memorable day for sure.  It was hot here too, around 90
degrees.
However, we still don't have the keys to the house.  We saw Jay about
a half hour before receiving the deed, asking if we could have the
keys. His response was not until the walk through on Friday. Well, on
Friday, we went for breakfast out, and picked up our check from the
Title company and went to Prescott to deposit it. Well, it so
happened, they were here at 10 o'clock to do the walk through, so
left a note on the fence saying they were here and we'd have to
reschedule. So, hopefully now Monday, we'll get the keys and I can do
laundry. There's a plug or cover over the drain in the laundry room,
and we don't know how to properly open it, so my washer won't drain
all over the floor. smile. Boy do we have a bunch of laundry to do
too. So, here's hoping they'll meet us at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon.
Duane
has doctors appointments both days they suggested to do the walk
through at
10 o'clock. So, I told them we should be done by 1, if they will
agree to do it then, on Monday.  So, yes, the song was Scarboro Fair.
Don't know exactly why Natalie Labanke chose that song. It wasn't
anything relating to graduating. But that's the song that we were
singing when the huge clap of thunder sounded off.  Yeah, I did jump,
and probably giggled a little too.
I sure wish I had a recording of it, but it seems no one has a copy.
My mom recorded it, but her house was broken into when they lived in
Benton Harbor, and lots of tapes were stolen.  That was one of them.
so, it just wasn't meant to be.  Anyway, I still have my diploma, and
that's all that counts.
I remember Marcie and Steve were the valedictorian and salutatorians,
and Steve Horstman was our class President.  I walked down the isle
with Bruce Bishop.  Our gowns were blue and gold.

Today being Wednesday, June 14, it is exactly 45 years since I
graduated with the class of 1972. On that day there was a great
thunderstorm during our graduation ceremony and if the weather holds,
we might have a similar event this evening. We've had some pretty
humid weather the last couple days and there are supposed to be some
thunderstorms tonight. But, my thoughts are with all the graduates
from my class as well as everybody else's class from MSB.
