Hi,

Well I've just got back from the auction where there were three
model traction engines for sale. I thought you might like to know how
the bidding went:

The 3" Fowler's Showman's reached GBP10,000, but did not reach
the reserve, which I am reliably informed was GBP11,500

The 2" Burrell "Thetford Town" reached GBP 4,700, but did not
reach the reserve - don't know what the reserve was set at.

The 2" Fowler Ploughing Engine reached GBP 3,500, and was sold.

So I am not sure what to read into this - are the owners being too
greedy - was it the wrong auction (there was a good crowd and they were
mainly steam/restoration types) - is it the wrong time of the year
(would a springtime sale be better)?

I didn't wait for the full-sized ones to be sold - that was several
hours away and it was rather cold standing around in the yard and open
barns. I will try and find out though what they did fetch.

There was an awful lot of plain old "Junk" at the sale, but
amazingly most of it sold. There was a rather nice little J & S
cylindrical grinder that went for GBP 60. All the things I was vaguely
interested in were in the category of "would be nice to have, but not
essential" so they all went for much more than I felt I could
justify! So apart for some diesel in the car, a pastie and a coffee
(to keep warm) it did not cost me anything!!

       Cheers,

          Roger Mason, in St. Agnes.
