One can only wonder if making it painful for others is by accident or
design. Happy accident?
One would expect that these kinds of changes are tested against
Microsoft's own products and issues are resolved. But do they simply
not test against other products? Do they test and ignore the results
because they don't care? Do they implement a change that can be
supported by native tools, but knowingly breaks others?
I don't usually ascribe maliciousness where mere incompetence can
account for the fault, but I think Microsoft ran out of credibility on
this front 20 years ago.

There’s some vendors who make native adapters now aimed at iPads for
register and conference scenarios but not as fun with Frankenstein.

This was added to make CarPlay function when it first started as wired-only.
A person at a third-party company figured it out and posted it to Twitter.
It’s also used by companies to load large files to devices en masse. There
are a few manufacturers of high speed USB hubs. If I recall, one or two of
them literally overheated and shit the bed after about 5 hours of use.
