Yep, I’ve been sending in updates. For example, if you delete the message
without opening/reading it, the return receipt from Mail.app actually sends
that detail as well! Which makes some modicum of sense, since the header is
“Disposition-Notification-To:” but it’s still kind of alarming when you
figure that out...
I also found in OWA a setting in the General->Mobile Devices section that
there’s a checkbox for “Don’t send read receipts for messages read on devices
that use Exchange ActiveSync”. Doesn’t seem to change the behavior though
for my iOS devices. I know that Mail.app on macOS doesn’t use ActiveSync (it
uses EWS). Will have to dig into that a bit with our Exchange folks.
