I absolutely agree.

Just start with a clean slate, and learn the MAC os and voiceover from the 
ground up, building knowledge upon knowledge.

Comparing how you did something in windows to how you can do it on the MAC will 
only serve to make things more confusing.

The MAC is a different subject and it need to be learned that way.
