hmmm,

Probably the reason emacs may not work all that well is either you may need it on the pc http://www.delorie.com/ can help out there. The other problem may be wysiwyg itself in which case something like ex may be more useful. It's line-oriented though, so if you remember edlin fondly you'll like ex. Inside of emacs have you tried esc-x then typed term to get an emacs terminal? On Wed, 5 Jan 2011, Tim Burgess wrote:

Well, most of the time I have available for development I have to terminal
in to my Mac from a PC (just the way it is with my work situation), so I
need an editor that I can work this way and when I'm actually local on the
Mac.

Best wishes.

If you use emacs, you will be in terminal, which is problematic with vo,
but it sort of works.

yes, just after you start emacs up type control-h then type t. You'll
be put into the interactive tutorial Richard Stallman the creator of
emacs wrote for emacs. That will get your feet on the ground and show
you where other things are you'll need later. On Tue, 4 Jan 2011, Tim

Thanks. If I go down the Emacs route, are there any tutorials that you
could recommend, please?

You already have ex, you could download and install emacs, and perhaps
you
also have ed. If you must have wysiwyg you can run ex as vi or perhaps
vim or perhaps elvis. On Tue, 4 Jan 2011, Tim Burgess wrote:

Hi,

Can anybody offer any advice as to a simple text editor suitable for
programming on the Mac that's friendly with VO? I'm using GCC from the
command line, rather than get bogged down in Xcode, so I just need
something
that won't expand tabs to spaces, etc..

Thanks in advance.

Best wishes.
