I'll add Simon, the first from lit-ideas in the tally, to those who would not destroy the Jovians because of a belief that earth culture is essentially not worth saving.

18, 4, with 5 abstentions.

As for never being "outside" of culture, that's a given. The question of course is a product of culture and the actor in the question is of course a product of that culture.

In answer to Simon's counterquestion, I would vote (not included in the tally) to exterminate the Jovians. My reason is that, no matter how evil or self-destructive, earth culture is "ours," and taking it away would be the end of identity and choice. As an agent of earth culture I would always choose to defend it.

As for the bear, black bears don't think that way though grizzlies do. If bears overpopulate, bear hunting season would be extended. There is no need for bear genocide because the species is managed.
