On the other hand, is there an "American studies" department in any Middle 
East university? Aside from translation sites like MEMRI, are there any 
organizations that monitor what is taught in mosques and schools in the Middle 
East? 

It's fine that people in the US defend freedom of thought. Who is doing the 
same job in Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, Israel, Iran? In the case of Iran, one 
mostly reads about the militia and/or police being called in to break up 
student protests or disband student organizations.

What's being done worldwide to ensure justice and intellectual freedom? Does 
anyone know?
