Hi, >I'm looking for personal reasons from people who _actually_ believe devoutly in a religion and adhere to its tenets. I just don't understand that irrational behaviour.< I'm sure you meant "I just don't understand what seems to me to be irrational behaviour." I'm at work and taking a break and so will think on this. I'm not sure, though, what you are asking, either. So maybe it would be helpful to clarify (for myself if not for you or anyone else <g>): For example: You first asked about people who let religious 'rule' their lives. But, tried to separate that from people who 'believe in G-d'. I do suppose there are levels of interactions with one's belief system -- and some people may have more of a 'personal' faith that 'rules' their lives but are not part of an 'organized religion'--while others see them intertwined moreso than others. Are you looking for the personal religious faith as well as the people who might have more of an 'outer' rules approach? I can, perhaps, answer for both as I do have a belief system that some might say is a 'religious system' which I definitely think 'rules' my life. (warped as it may be <g>) However, having been in the world which definitely tries to pinpoint you to cross your t's and dot your i's...it's taken me a long time to be able to work through my belief system and see what was 'me' and what had been twists and turns imposed on me [I don't think I'm wording that very well--for I do take responsibility for those twists and turns. But, in looking back over notes that I took during an impressionable time in my life which kind of warped me in a different way...though there were other issues involved that had nothing to do with 'religion' and more to do with heading to a place that I thought was 'safe' because I had no experience and no brains or courage to 'talk' to anyone who might have been able to help me.] I'll think on this, though. Always helpful when one has to work on stupid stuff...<g> Glad you are keeping the faith [such as it is <g>], Marlena in Missouri ------------------------------------------------------------------ To change your Lit-Ideas settings (subscribe/unsub, vacation on/off, digest on/off), visit www.andreas.com/faq-lit-ideas.html
