Those issues are not fixed in Liblouis 3.3 that JAWS 2018.1710.1 is using.
What is the status?
Thank you.

Hi list,
Here is another message from Michael Robin. He's letting us know that the issue
with inconsistent contractions described below is apparently not fixed yet.
Something to look into?
Thanks,
Bert

For clarification of issue for any contraction followed by special character
not contraction of dis only. For other samples of “action group” with
different seventh character as follows:
Case 1 – with contraction of tion
Action group
Action. Group
Action-group
Case 2: no contraction of tion
Action/group
Action\group
Action$group

On second thought we can probably assume that if ‘dis’ is followed by a single
consonant that it should not be contracted. We’ll make these changes.

The ‘dis’ contraction should only be used with the ‘dis’ is the first syllable
of a word. Punctuation symbols are a word delimiter and so these are indeed
errors in the table. Maybe difficult to cover because it involves syllable
divisions. In short, yes, the en-ueb-g2 table needs to be corrected.

Hi,
The below message gives some examples where Liblouis does not translate things
according to the rulebook. I’d like to know if we do need to modify
en-ueb-g2.ctb to make sure we take care of this or it arose due to
misunderstanding. Thanks.
Cheers,
Joseph

Here are some samples with two words “disk group” with different character in
fifth character as follows:
Case 1: no contraction of “dis”
Disk group
Disk. Group
Disk-group
Case 2: contraction of “dis” for some special characters
Disk/group
Disk\group
disk@group
disk%group
disk$group
This does not make sense until someone could address the inconstant logic in
liblouis. You may want to check with liblouis group.
Thank you.

Hi Joseph,
Thank you for referring to the rulebook, but I have a question about
inconsistent rule as follows:
Disc and disk use four cells per rule.
Disc/ uses contraction of “dis” for some word “disc” or “disk” followed by
special character.
Please explain.
Thank you.

Hi,
Looks like the rulebook wins (Liblouis tries to be standards compliant, and it
means going by the rulebook). See below for explanations.

Joseph,
The UEB rulebook disagrees with this.
Per 10.6.1, you can use "dis" when the letters it represents form the first
syllable of a word. "Disc" is given as a specific example of when not to use
the "dis" contraction. That also applies to words like "dish", "dishevel",
"dispirited", etc.
It can be used following a capital sign, but the rules are more complicated if
there are multiple capital letters or capital terminators involved.

And the capitalized variants? I thought it wasn’t. Thanks.

Hi Joseph,
I just noticed that two words that begin with “dis” do not use contraction on
the first braille cell as both words are being displayed on four cells instead
of two cells:
Disc
Disk
DISC
DISK
Disc… as such as discs
Disk… as such as disks
Disc=, disc+, disc_, disc/, disc\, disc|, disc@, disc#, disc$, disc%, disc^,
disc&, disc*, disc~ use contraction of “dis”
Disk followed by same special character as disc uses contraction of “dis”.
Please fix these issues for liblouis 3.0 for grade 2 UEB that JAWS 18 will be
using.
Thank you for your attention.
