Good evening, Aram!
Did you think of switching to manual focus and just wait for them to get
to the mark?
I tried that, years ago, with the R8+DMR .. IO works with ice hockey, but with
bikes. They move so erratically, it's hard enough just to follow them ... and
at 80mph and a 300mm lens, they are through the zone of focus faster than you
can press the button, once you realize where they are. Remember, in a turn
they are coming almost straight at you.
Looks like you have a permanent spot on that turn. And you make great
use of it.
Thank you. :->
I always shoot into a turn, for that's when the bikes lean over and look their
best. If you're going to shoot on the straight-a-way, you might as well shoot
cars. (The race those, on ice, over by Ashcroft. About 45 minutes from town,
in the other direction.)
This year, I've focused almost exclusively on Turn 4, because shooting into
Turn 2 means sitting/standing in 4 feet of snow, at -26C. Sorry, not my idea
of fun. Turn 3 has the same problem and Turn 1 has a line of parked cars &
trucks - too busy a backdrop.
No snow here in Yakima yet, but they say it is on the way. About time.
Winter arrived late, for us, And until yesterday, it has remained quite mild.
So mild, in fact, that when I checked my digital thermometer around 9am,
yesterday morning, it said it was +4.9, which I mentioned in a post. By 2 pm
it said it was +28.5C. Very tropical! Which seemed odd with all the snow on
the ground. After a quick change of the batteries in the sending unit, the
temperature dropped to a more believable -9.
This is our first day of really cold weather this winter, and it is only
supposed to last another day or two. I can live with that!
David.
