Sadly, I haven't been there since '73 (a 2002 stop at Tokyo airport,
transferring flights doesn't count!) when I had the good fortune to be
in Kyoto in early April for the Cherry (sakura) blossoms. :)

I have been planning this trip for some years now, I will even have a
charming local guide (one of my japanese penpals) to make sure I don't
get geographically challenged or risk 'kuidaore' (ruining myself
through eating).
It is really too bad I can't move there for a few years, as there are
so many festivals in Kansai I want to capture on film (Shinsengumi,
Jidaimatsuri, Hanabi, Gionmatsuri, Setsubun, just to name a few in
Kyoto), probably enough to keep me busy processing film for a decade or
two.
